*picks up phone and dials bank*
"Hi, will you give me a shitload of money to go buy a car?"
"Metric or Imperial shitload?"
"Uh...Metric?"
"One moment..."
*hold music*
"Sir?"
"Yeah?"
"You're approved for a Metric shitload of money to go buy a car. Here's the rate and the monthly payments."
"Uh...good."

Hi,

[EDIT -- I'm all set, I got all my stuff out of the car...with the pocket change alone I should have a good down payment for the next one.]

So...the car is a total loss. The appraiser racked up about $9500 worth of charges before the computer told him to quit.

So...I'm buying a new car apparently.

But first, I need to ask a favor. I really wish there was Zip Car in Maynard, but there isn't. If there's anyone with wheels willing to give me a ride during the day on Tuesday (the 25th), I'd really appreciate it. I need to go out to Boxborough to clean out my car, pull the plates and authorize the insurance company to take it away to car heaven.

I will totally cover the cost of gas (and your zip car fee if you use zip car).

After that, I will probably be asking about buying a car (it's been awhile since I last did this and I don't have a handy in with the manufacturer like I did last time). But for now I need to prep the body of the king for burial.

Thanks in advance for any help

Hey,

Some pictures from the accident yesterday:

This is my front:

This is my front...

And this is my back:

...and this is my back.

No word on if it's a write-off or not. Should know in a few hours.

Hey,

So I'll start off by saying that I'm fine. Nothing's wrong and no one was hurt.

And now I'll tell you about my car accident.

I was driving home from the grocery store on a nice stretch of back country road between Hudson and Stow. The guy in front of me suddenly put on the brakes and stopped short. So I hit the brakes and stopped short. Then the guy behind me plowed into me and sandwiched my car.

Everyone was fine, but my car got towed away. Now I've got paperwork to fill out and we'll see what my insurance says. On the one hand, I've been ruminating about getting a new car. On the other hand, I'd like to be able to buy a car because I want to and not because I need to.

But mostly I'm grateful that I feel wildly inconvenienced about all of this rather than being back in the hospital.

And now, I'm buying myself lunch.

The MA DMV does not send out notices when your vehicle's registration is about to expire. Check your plates and make sure you renew your registration in a timely manner. Tickets and tows are expensive.

Hey,

So this past weekend I discovered that I can't actually sit in a Fiat unless there is a moon-roof and said moon-roof is open. So there's a car I shouldn't buy.

Hey,

Since google searches have been uninformative or worse, can anyone recommend an auto-body shop in the metro-west area (ideally between 128 and 495?

Thanks

Hey,

So last night I went to this restaurant to get some supper. When I got in my car to leave, there was this terrible crunching noise. So I got out to look. Like a lot of parking lots, the place here had these little concrete bumpers designed to keep you from parking on the sidewalk. Unfortunately, the concrete bumper got locked up with the plastic bumper on my car and when I backed up...crunch.

So the bumper has been pulled out of alignment and if the mass of plastic screws I found on the pavement are any indication, that's a permanent condition. So I've got to get some body work done. But assuming that they won't have my bumper on hand and since I need to use my car for a few days it's going to be a bit dicey.

I lost an internal mudguard on the passenger side. Does anyone no if that will present serious problems or will they just run a hose over it to clean off the muck and be happy? I don't see any dangling bits of plastic touching the ground, but is there anything else I should check for/be worried about?

I am, of course, less than two months away from paying the car off.

Well...

So much for that huge tax return. If I'd brought the car in just a little bit earlier, I wouldn't be blowing it all on the brake job.

I will *not* be getting the rim job as my rim is some sort of space-age alloy that is very expensive, but also bend-y.
