Hey,

So you can download the first two eps. of The Legend of Korra (aka The Last Airbender II -- Bending Boogaloo) for free from iTunes. So I did.

Man. This is a good show. The artwork is outstanding, the voice acting is good and they leave the strictly fantastic milieu behind for a more Asian/Steampunk flavor. Now I'm considering picking up more episodes.

Hey,

If you like Adventure Time at all, you need to check out this episode before Cartoon Network yanks it from YouTube.

GENDER-SWAPPED ADVENTURE TIME!

And stick around to the very end, it's totally awesome:

[Too late...CN yanked it]

Yeah, they play up the romance angle a little harder than they do in the typical show, but seriously, the ending alone brings it all home.

Hey,

So the new Thundercats cartoon?

Frickin' AWESOME!

They wanted to draw in the kid crowd with an Airbender/Naruto kind of vibe, but they knew they had to make the old fart fans like me happy. And they delivered in spades. So much good stuff and just the right amount of fan-service. I'm really jazzed for this show.

In fact, one very reasonable interpretation of the background they drop in the first episode is that this isn't a reboot so much as a sequel. The idea being that we're many, many generations removed from the original series and the story picks up with the descendants of the original show.

So yeah, if you enjoyed the original series, there's a lot to like in this new show.

Hey,

So...they're doing a re-make of the Thundercats. Here's the (slightly choppy) video trailer:

Me: Well, Inner-12-Year-Old-Me, what did you think?

I12YOM: Oh come on! This isn't like the original show at all!

Me: Well, you have to understand that you're not the 12 year-old they're trying to reach any more. They melding in elements that are popular with kids today.

I12YOM: But it's all like Airbender or Naruto or dumb action-emo stuff like that.

Me: As if the original show didn't have its share of dumb stuff? Ro-Ber Burbils? The Luna-tics? The fact that only Lion-O aged in the sleep tubes and no one else did? You note that Snarf is now just a pokemon-like pet instead of a whiny little prig. That right there makes the show potentially 600 times better and it also means we probably won't have ham-handed PSA clips at the end. So that's good.

I12YOM: Well...that's true. And at least Cheetara is still as hot as hell.

Me: Yes, yes she is. So, on balance, I think we should give this one a shot.

"Warner Bros. Animation (WBA) has begun production on ThunderCats, an all-new animated series for Cartoon Network, based upon the iconic 1980s action classic."

Umm...squee?

"A sweeping tale combining swords and science and boasting ferocious battles with the highest of stakes, the grand origin story of Prince Lion-O's ascension to the throne – and of those who would thwart his destiny at any cost — takes on epic dimensions in this sharp new telling. As the forces of good and evil battle each other in the quest for the fabled Stones of Power, Lion-O and his champions learn valuable lessons of loyalty, honor and mortality in every episode."

oooh...Stones of Power...that doesn't sound good.

"ThunderCats is executive produced by Sam Register (Teen Titans, Ben 10, Batman: The Brave and the Bold). Michael Jelenic (Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Wonder Woman) and Ethan Spaulding (Avatar: The Last Airbender) are the producers."

OK, nevermind.

SQUEEEE!
Tom

p.s. WHERE'S MY DAMN THUNDAR THE BARBARIAN REMAKE!?!?!?

Hey,

You know who has the best job? The team who has to put together the opening, 5-minute mini-episode that leads off Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

"OK, it's Batman, some lesser DC hero and villain. They fight. Make it as awesome as hell."

Batman's utility belt flattens out into a scabbard and he pulls out a sword to fight magical fire monsters? Crazy, mad awesome!
Tom

p.s. And this was really the worst overall episode so far.

p.p.s. And a bonus beat-down on the Cavalier just for kicks.

Hi,

Two things today.

First, did you ever see this show on Saturday mornings? If you did...you're probably very, very old...like me. *sigh* I totally had a thing for Glamor Gal. Sadly the picture quality on this clip is pretty bad, but it probably comes from a VCR tape that's over 20 years old. I seriously doubt anyone will ever release a DVD of this show which is too bad because...y'know...Glamor Gal.

Second, on a casual stroll last night with the lovely and talented (and quite tall) [livejournal.com profile] methanopyrus we came across a pair of odd, but neat looking little cars. They looked like Super-Deformed anime cars.

They were a pair of Smart fourtwo cars. Very slick looking automobiles. If I could fit behind the wheel (and I might be able to), this would be my ultimate city driving machine. They're only "sorta" available in the US, but there appears to be a NH dealer who works with Zap motors (the unoffical US importer). Supposedly they'll be more available in late 2006-2007.

ah well, back to work
