Hi,
So I saw Steamboy.
Uh...yeah.
It wasn't bad. It got very preachy very quickly.
But there were lots of steam-driven doo-dads and tin soldiers and Robert Stephenson coming up with a last ditch plan to stop the world's most fearsome clockwork from destoying London (said plan didn't work) and a steam-powered Shazuma Drive.
There was also the dramatic "save yourselves and let me die in my terrible creation" lightened up by the whole "Yeah, but your terrible creation is about to kill thousands of innocents, maybe we should give a thought for them first eh?" Which I thought was a nice touch.
The problem is that this movie was preceeded by a trailer for:
Kung-Fu Hustle
Oh. My. God.
As I was watching the trailer in the theatre, I had already, in a very real spiritual sense, purchased the tickets to see this show.
After that, it'd take a lot for a movie to really get me fired up about it.
It rates a solid B. But Lord Howl's Castle is due out in a few months and I'm looking forward to that too.
