Hey,

I really didn't pay much attention to all the iPad hype other than "huh, I'm not quite sure what I'd do with it". Today, one of my early-adopter co-workers brought one in.

I can't remember the last time I've had such terrifying techno-lust. Even the Kindle didn't jazz me the way that iPad does (and even I can see that the iPad's glossy screen will make for terrible reading in a lot of situations).

I'm pretty sure I'll resist the demons puling me towards the Apple store but man do I want one of these right now.

It's got a pretty decent reader in it for both ebooks and pdfs. The comic book reader application is pretty great. Also, I want to get a developer kit and start making games for this thing. Finally, as a portable streaming media device it's really slick.

Also it's shiny and I'm easily lured by shiny things.

I own a tablet and a UI upgrade and dropping the weight wouldn't make it a good reader. There's a very good reason that Sony and Amazon chose to build their readers as they did when they could have just as easily made a tablet.

I know exactly what I'd do with an iPad. I'd play Galcon (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLUUAiGp-sk&feature=player_embedded#t=0m39s). It's awesome fun on a PC. I can only imagine how much more fun it would be with multi-touch...
