Hey,
I finished the solo game last night. It's fun. It's a lot better than the first game. There are a wider range of places to fight in. They break up the foot slogging with some vehicle combat (or combat on vehicles). The firefights are loud and chaotic and fun.
The writing/plot remains lame and steals ideas from other games that were themselves recycled when those games used them. Sgt. Fenix (the guy you control) still sounds like he gargles with ground glass every morning. None of this really matters given the type of game Gears is supposed to be. There's a boss fight about 3/4ths of the way through that's really obnoxious and a final boss fight that makes you go "what the hell was the point of that?". Those are a little more annoying, but honestly everything else is so good you don't really care.
