Life's Little Victories
Aug. 30th, 2011 02:05 pmHi,
Went out to the vending machine to get a little treat.
Put in my dollar and selected the Twix.
*whirr-whirr-whirr* stop.
The Twix still hangs perilously in the rack.
"Tarnation! Denied my chocolate-caramel wrapped cookie treat!"
*bang!*
*ka-thunk!*
"Huzzah! My pugilistic assault has dislodged the desired confectionery!"
*ka-thunk!*
"What ho! A second Twix bar has fallen from the rack! I am doubled in candy riches!"
Capital!
Tom

Aug. 30th, 2011 08:18 pmHey,
So I just thought of a great new experiment (that will get me thousands of views on YouTube by science-minded netizens):
Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you:
I envision a long pendulum with a ball-shaped metal cage at the bottom. Inside are one or more cats along with food/water dispensers. The ball is set in motion and a "kicker" keeps it going.
In the original version of this experiment, the Earth rotates beneath the pendulum and the arc slowly describes a circle over 24-hours. With one or more cats inside the ball, the weight will shift in subtle ways causing a more erratic pattern which will be of great interest to the scientific mind.
I'll probably follow this up with the Mk. II Focault Pendulum where I find a guy named Focault, truss him up and swing him. Again, I expect an erratic and illuminating pattern to evolve.
FOR SCIENCE!
