Hi,

So the Boston International Film Festival is this week. You can check them out at the incredibly mis-named www.bifilmfestival.com -- a URL that makes the movies seem a lot sexier than they really are.

I really want to see Session 5 this Thursday because the feature film is "Hitters Anonymous" about a support group for ex-hitmen.

I'd also like to see Session 10 because it has a documentary about Sesame Steet, but I think I'll be shopping for wedding garb at that time.

Anyway, some good stuff all over the festival, so be sure to check it out.

Polarity

Hi,

So over Memorial Day weekend, I picked up a copy of Polarity. Tonight I got to play a couple of rounds and it was a lot of fun.

The game is essentially marbles with magnets. Each side gets 26 flat disc-shaped magnets. Each side lays out 5 magnets as "foundations". On your go, you take another one of your magnets and try to "stand" it against the magnetic field of one of your foundation magnets. If you disrupt magnets already out on the board, there's the chance that your opponent will capture them and turn them into "towers" of magnets which will be worth points at the end. So basically, you want your opponent to screw up because that's the main way to gain points.

The game is extremely elegant -- more so than the rules or my brief description might suggest. There are all these disks just floating against thin air and as the board fills up, some very deep thinking needs to happen so you can move your next magnet in safely without disturbing the setup.

Definately worth some replays.
