Hi,

So on Sunday, [livejournal.com profile] methanopyrus and I decided to try Sunday Brunch at Tea Tray in the Sky in Arlington.

There was a small hitch.

Tea Tray in the Sky no longer exists (at least not in Arlington). Instead, it's been replaced by a restaurant called Tryst. They also have a Sunday brunch and so we decided to check it out.

Tryst is a really nice place. Not super-swanky, but aims for upscale. It's a little nicer than a Not Your Average Joe's for example. Also, brunch has breakfast foods like pancakes and french toast, but that's not where the focus is.

So here's what we had:

We got a bread bowl. But instead of bread it had blueberry muffins, poppyseed cake and scones. Very nice.

For starters, I had blue-cheese stuffed figs wrapped in bacon. They were pretty darn spectacular. A nice mixture of flavors. She had the celery root soup and from the spoonfuls I got, it was nice and savory.

For the main course, she had a wild mushroom omlette which was a little heavy on the onions, but otherwise seemed good. I had the crab cakes benedict which was very, very rich. The hollindase sauce was like melted butter. It was heavenly.

About the only part of the meal that didn't seem up-to-par where the homefries. I mean sure, homefries, not a huge variety of ways to set those up, but mine were a little cold and hers were a little too salty. They just seemed really weak in comparison to the other offerings on the plate.

Still, the overall experience was a pleasant surprise, and I really want to try them for supper some night.

I am a food snob, a product of NYC and SF tastes, and therefore more critical. I was impressed by the nice atmosphere visually and aurally. I thought the menu was exciting and it got my food adventure juices running but I was not blown away by the flavors or quality (for the priciness), the coffee needed to be richer (thank goodness it was only $1.50) and I assume my dish was supposed to have more than two wild mushrooms for a "wild mushroom" dish. The most exciting thing I tasted was the bluberry muffin at the start.
