Hey,

Having fun at GenCon.

BUT

I'm starved for news. Particularly, I really need to know what to exect when I go to the airport on Sunday so I can get the hell on the plane and out to Boston...to get the hll on that plane.

So...what are the new restrictions I can look forward to?

Tom

It appears they're doing a second screening at the gate. The terrorists were planning on using liquid explosives, so plan on ditching/throwing out any food or drink before you get on the plane. Other than that and automatic weapons, it seems pretty much like before.

since i book travel for my boss, Delta sent me this:

you could experience delays at the airport. Please remember to pack lightly, travel with little or no carry on baggage (due to the potential screening delays at the security checkpoints) and arrive approximately three hours prior to your scheduled take-off time.

Here are some additional tips that may help you as you prepare for any upcoming trips. No liquids or gels will be permitted through airport screening checkpoints and they cannot be carried onboard. Keep in mind, there are some restrictions to what items can be included in checked baggage. Visit delta.com/baggage for additional details, and please notify a ticket agent if you have packed any of these restricted items.

Examples of prohibited substances include:

Beverages (including those purchased at the airport)
Shampoo
Suntan lotion
Creams
Toothpaste
Hair gel
And other items of similar consistency
However, you will be able to carry on the following substances:

Baby formula, breast milk or juice for a traveling child
Medicine prescribed to you
Insulin and other essential non-prescription medicines
And remember, including all your current contact information both inside and outside any baggage will help ensure that a bag separated from you finds its way back.

hope this helps....good luck....

So far, the US hasn't adopted the draconic measures the UK has. If you're flying domestic, don't plan on having any sort of liquid or gel in your carry on though. Other than that, the prohibited list seems to be the same as it was before.

If you can get away with limiting your carry on to a paperback, that might be best. iPods seem to be okay so far too.

From what I hear, expect a 2-3 hour wait for security. And make sure your toiletry bag is in your checked luggage!

Apparently, I was told cell phones needed to be checked, as well.

The list says phones are OK, but the word is you should check with the airline specifically.

I've been hearing that the security wait is not that bad, not really worse than before. Both [livejournal.com profile] jbseagal and [livejournal.com profile] aroraborealis got through security today with little or no difficulty. I talked with [livejournal.com profile] asciikitty today (we really had a lovely time together and I'm glad we got together!) and we agreed that we should get you two to the airport on Sunday between 3:30 and 4. Also, I'll not expect to hear from you, cellphone-wise, that you've landed on Sunday, because I'll assume you had to check your phone. If you call, great, but I'll not worry that much. Also, I think I'll plan to park and wait for you at arrivals inside, just in case you're extra dead and cranky, rather than wait at the curb and circle and circle. Sound good?

Also, you married yourself a lovely and very nice woman. I'm pleased to be getting to know her.

There's also a chance that you'll need to prove that electronic devices & allowed liquids (drinks for traveling children & medicine) are what you claim them to be.
