bluegargantua...knowledge of the prior movies is helpful but not required if you want to watch Fast Five (the 5th installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise).
...it's not a very good movie, but it has no illusions about what kind of movie it is.
...there were not as many car chase scenes as I was expecting.
...the movie ticks off every testosterone-soaked male bonding checkbox it can.
...Vin Diesel still gargles with ground glass every morning.
...Vin Diesel in a big punch-up with the Rock isn't thick with homoerotic subtext -- there's nothing subtle about it. The fact they didn't do that "we're fighting and now we're kissing" thing was probably to hold something back for the DVD special edition.
Eh, I pick on it but I've seen much, much worse and, like I say, the movie knows what it is and does it's very best to be just that.
