Hi,

So after reading through Houses of the Blooded and shilling it a bit here. I’m at last ready to make an official Bid To Run a Game:

What: A Houses of the Blooded Campaign. Houses of the Blooded is a role-playing game where you take on the role of a Ven noble. The Ven are aristocratic bastards obsessed with political power, illicit romance, dark sorceries and above all, Revenge. PCs aren’t necessarily working at cross-purposes to one another (although by the end of the series they might). It’s a little bit like Amber (with less godlike power and more scheming).

Although the main book describes Ven culture to help player’s get a handle on the mood/feel of the game a lot of the cultural details remain sketchy. Taking advantage of that, I’d like to set this game on an slightly tweaked version of Barsoom -- the fantasy Mars of Edgar Rice Burroghs. The Ven in this case are the “Red Martians” of Barsoom and the other denizens are the monstrous “ork” in Ven parlance. So you’ve got declining city states, planet-spanning canals, harsh desert sands, cold starry nights, steaming jungle valleys, weird animals, plant men, airships and continuous swashbuckling -- all of it providing a vibrant background to the intrigues and schemes of the players.

A deep knowledge of Barsoom or the Ven is not required to get started, we'll just pull in what we need as we need it and make up the rest.

When: Houses of the Blooded works on a “seasonal” schedule with various empire-building/resource management stuff happening at the start/end of each season and 2-3 adventures happening within each season, which is where the meat of play happens.

Right now, I’d like to shoot for one full year of game time, so that means that there will be 8-12 sessions. Each session will be about 4 hours long and I’d probably run on a bi-weekly schedule. Possibly Sunday afternoons? Actual game dates will depend on the schedules of the players.

Where: TBD based on participant location.

How: The Houses of the Blooded system borrows the Aspect concept from FATE, although it doesn’t use FUDGE Dice. Essentially, you pull in various Aspects to generate a pool of d6’s. Roll all of them and if you beat a 10 you succeed. The wrinkle is that you can set aside some dice as a wager. If you still beat a 10, you can spend each wagered die to add one fact to the scene. Hence, the game is very much driven by the creative input of the players.

Who: Well, you, if you’re interested. I’d run with at least 3 players, although I’d be happy with 4. If the description above grabs your attention, then speak up and we’ll see about setting up a game.
