An informal LJ poll (since I'm too cheap to buy real polls):

Ladies, are you more into:

1.) Wizards?
2.) Sorcerers?

And now, one for the guys.

Fellas, are you more into:

1.) Clerics
2.) Druids

And finally, for people who oppose the duality.

Sentient being, are you more into:

1.) Thieves
2.) Rangers

Thank you for your participation
Tom

Almost every D&D character I ever got into for a serious span of time was a cleric, thief, or split-class cleric/thief. I did have a lot of fun playing a really antisocial druid once, though.

Twenty years later: my first Warcraft character (and my first 85) is a discipline priest, my second is a combat rogue.

Who makes a distinction between 'wizard' and 'sorcerer', besides Pratchett?

Wizards. They're nerds like that.
Steve Pemberton's The Times & Life of Lucifer Jones describes the distinction thus: "The difference between a wizard and a sorcerer is comparable to that between, say, a lion and a tiger, but wizards are acutely status-conscious, and to them, it's more like the difference between a lion and a dead kitten." – Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wizard_(fantasy)#Names_and_terminology)
