Spin he Review
Jul. 21st, 2012 07:22 amHi,
So the ohter day I finished Spin the Sky by Katy Stauber. It's basically a sci-fi retelling of Odyssesus/Ulysses. The story takes place in a near-ish future after Earth and her orbiatls have a war. The Spacers win thanks to Cesar Vasquaro who resolves the issue rather explosively and wanders about space for a number of years before finally returning to his home orbital of Ithaca.
Having been away for so many years, he goes unrecognized by pretty much everyone including his own wife...and you think "yeah you said it was based off Ulysses so I know all this". This start to veer when Cesar discovers that bad things have been happening to his station and someone is trying to make off with its prized herd of cattle.
The book was fine but the tech levels were all over the place and while Penelope is something of a kick-ass, she still doesn't recognize her own husband for over 3/4ths of the book and it really undercuts her competence. Beach reading I guess.
