Y'know what I'm hankerin' for....

I just want to run D&D as a straight wargame.
You've got your players doing the PCs. The other player running all the monsters. A big dungeon to smash through and that's it. No roleplaying, no big story, just "we've come to take your loot and dance through 5' squares to do it".
Like Space Hulk but you've got one guy not a squad of marines and the genestealers are a little more varied.

This is inspired by the upcoming Descent boardgame by FFG. It's gotten some really good buzz and I liked the look of it at GenCon.
And then I'm like -- what I really want to do with D&D is just play it like a boardgame, like Descent or Space Hulk, et. al.

Date: 2005-10-03 05:35 pm (UTC)VPM has been doing a "clear the hex" type adventure for something like the last six sessions. Ten minutes of game time stretched out over something like three months of real time.
Pygment has a baggie containing all the physreps for the destroyed monsters - it's quite full.

That's the other great bit about just gaming it. You can try out all kinds of funky characters at whatever level people want to do. The slow build-up is fun but sometimes you don't want to play a Gnomish Barbarian for 15 levels.

Date: 2005-10-03 09:38 pm (UTC)I like to have a dungeon with one kind of adventure, and "town" with another kind, and gradual overlapping.
