So tonight, I went to see Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame. It's playing down at the Kendall Sq. Theatre.
It's best described as a Kung-Fu Scooby Doo mystery and it's a lot of fun.
So China's about to get it's first Empress. Then her top advisers start spontaneously combusting. To solve this little problem, she calls in Detective Dee...whom she had imprisoned for rebelling against her several years ago.
Dee start poking around. There's talk of divine retribution, but Dee doesn't buy into that mumbo-jumbo. Sure, he can do amazing kung-fu stunts, but that's all down to hard work and training, there's no magic to it. Sadly, Dee has a palace full of suspects and a raft of ninjas chasing after him. But he Columbo's his way through the situation and wraps it all up with some fast footwork.
So, yeah, a fun film.
