Hi,

For a ragtag group of half a dozen racial types, we’ve gotten marginally better at this sneaking around business. Kestrel and Hendel raided the shop where the cleric was picking up her deliveries of “don’t die just yet” medicine. The midnight visit revealed that the stuff was coming from outside the city of Anvil, a place called Everstin and while the shipper didn’t give a name, company notes describe him as a guy with an x-shaped scar on his cheek.

Hoping to rescue the cleric’s family members, we decided to follow-up on this. So we drove out of town and had Dauntless pick us up for a ride. A few hours later and we touch down a discreet distance away and motor into town on Brawl. We find the local branch of the shipping company (a group called Sundowning). We’re faced with a bit of problem at this point. Based on transit times, it’s highly likely that Scarcheeks will be dropping off the next shipment today. So we need to stake this place out. Everyone else in the group is sort of the mortal enemy of Scarcheeks, so that means they’ll keep an eye on things from an outdoor balcony across the street, while I peruse the local broadsheets and keep an eye on the door at street level.

A couple of hours and several re-reads of the broadsheets later (oh Garfield, you silly cat!), our man steps in, drops off his package and leaves. I give the signal to the others and move off down the street to discreetly tail him at a distance. Not, I will admit, my particular forte, but people are often quick to step clear of wizards and then forget they ever saw them.

We followed our man along the waterfront for awhile and then he turned down an alley and continued down into a plaza and into a boarded up building a the far end. I nonchalantly kept on going and turned into a nearby tavern. Inside, the clientele was mixed-race so I was a little less concerned about being made by the Bells. I ordered a truly revolting ale and waited for the rest of the crew to show up.

We made a few more quick passes in front of the building to see what we could see but things were quiet. We decided to pay the place a noisy visit later that night while Dauntless kept watch from on high.

Later that night we crept up to the door and Kestrel popped the locks. Kaylee, always eager to help, rushed into the derelict building, only to be shot by Scarcheeks. We all went piling in to face the cultists, only to spot other cultists, dressed as local homeless people running through the plaza towards us. The cultists within the building were tough, but eventually we beat them back. The cultists running around from outside weren’t as tough and quickly succumbed to a few well-placed blasts.

Sadly, Scarcheeks managed to take advantage of the rotten floor that I’d sent one of the other cultists plunging through. He dove into the water and swam over to get into the sewers. We probably should’ve chased after him, but we had a prisoner and we hoped to find the hostages here and there was a patrol boat on the way. So we did a quick search (finding nothing) and hauled our hostage out of there.

Lacking any better leads, we decided to check out the local chapter house of the Toiling Bells. After debating several alternatives, we decided to climb a nearby building and break in through a balcony on the front. Alanna nearly killed herself trying to leap like a gazelle between the buildings, but I managed to feather fall her safely and she managed to hide from the curious guards. We lowered a rope to haul her back up and all of us got across.

We found ourselves in a well-appointed bedroom. We riffled through the desk and found out that the cultists seemed to have some farm a few days’ travel away and that’s probably where the hostages were being held. Considering that a good night’s work, we all snuck out and went back to crash for the night in Brawl.

The next morning, the Baroness’s agent in town, a Dragonborn lady dropped by and asked us if we needed help. She helped us figure out exactly where this farm is and has agents ready to meet us when we arrive in a few hours. So I suppose we’ll clean out this farm and then possibly pull down the chapterhouse back in Everstin before returning to Anvil and continuing our bell-busting.
