Hey,

So I've always heard good things about the Scott Pilgrim series of graphic novels by Bryan Lee O'Malley. Then I saw the amazing trailer for the movie adaptation coming out this summer.

But every time I flipped though it in the comic book store it just didn't grab me. It was the art. The art has this "really talented but untrained" look to it (a bit like Kate Beaton). I like Beaton's work, but here it just didn't quite fly. Plus, the whole "young 20's slacker chases dream girl" plot seemed cookie cutter.

Last night I gave in an picked up the first volume: Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life.

It was completely awesome! I am not ashamed to admit I was completely wrong about this one. I'm probably going to pick up the next couple of volumes today. I think it's the humor that really turned it around for me. There's some hysterically funny stuff going on between the covers that just isn't apparent on the first read-through.

Anyway, the critical hype is rather justified so you should check it out.
