Right,
So the whole thing with moving in with Annie is to test the waters for a long-term living together situation (i.e. getting married, settling down together, dodging the Geneva Convention and producing spawn, that sort of thing). It seemed wise and prudent. We've been handfasted for nearly a year, we're now sharing an apartment to discover if we can live cheek by jowl, etc.
So it was some surprise when, about three weeks ago, Annie asked if we could move the whole timetable up and get married sometime the end of summer next year.
"But we haven't even moved in together yet."
"Doesn't matter. If things get really awful we can call it off, but I don't think that's going to happen. I want to marry you next summer. Are you in?"
"Well...uh...yes."
"Good. I'd like a ring."
"Wait, you proposed to me. Shouldn't I be the one to get something?"
"You want a ring?"
"Well...no, but maybe something that's more my style...like a model train."
"An engagement model train?"
"You're right, I'll get you a ring."
And thus it is that we are engaged now. Expect to hear more about this in November when we set a date beyond "oh August 2006ish". Actually, if you're a friend of Annie's you may have heard a lot more about this already. If you're a friend of mine, I'll let you know what's up when we get close enough for real decisions to be made.
Until then, I'm very happy with the current state of affairs.

p.s. Also, my "G.I. Joe" themed wedding idea didn't go over so well.
Sorry, guys, I tried.
