An Empress, major heads of corporations, a military type who strikes fear into everyone...you've got a strange definition of "unremarkable". :)
Although, to be fair, it wasn't until you pointed it out that I fully grasped the preponderance of female characters so maybe it is unremarkable.
The writing was good and it was fun, I just wanted a bit more forward momentum.
