Prop 8

Hey,

So, I'm curious. Given that California seems to have a sort of "hey, just make up a ballot question and we'll put it up for a vote", could pro-marriage people come up with a proposition for the next election that says "actually, prop 8 was stupid and we're reversing it"? And if they can do that, how long does that football go back and forth?

later
Tom

Until the Mormons run out of money.

Dude, do you think the Mormons really want to see a guy with a harem of guy "wives"?? That's what they're on about, they're afraid of penises touching penises, or whatever those wacky gays do to themselves.

Lesbians don't count as gays neither, God made them for Mormon entertainment, and sometimes the wives need to keep each other busy.

I think he was referring more to wives keeping themselves primed and ready for your husbandly duty. Preferably with you watching.

Dude, no way... you're just not interpreting the texts correctly, I'm sure. Joseph Smith totally wanted girl on girl.

That would be using linear reasoning, which I think is against mormon faith.

MA's constitutional amendments are not subject to reversal for some time. CA may be similar.

Nope; in California you can keep on swapping proposition victories forever, every single election, so mote it be. It's not the most functional state government imaginable.

Which is why referendums are not very democratic. Its pure governance by the loudest and richest and the rabid majority.

I hates them.

FWIW, various sources are reporting that there are nearly 3 million absentee and provisional ballots yet to be counted in California.

With 95% of the precincts reporting, Prop 8 is ahead by a bit over 400,000 votes.

[identity profile] etherial.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, we need an Amendment to the U.S. Constitution anyway.

[identity profile] mikecap.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Or, you know, ENFORCEMENT OF THE FIRST AMENDMENT. If marriage is so tied to religion, it shouldn't be legislated at all, anywhere.

[identity profile] etherial.livejournal.com 2008-11-05 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Argue on the First Amendment and they'll cede religion without losing the battle. We need the Fourteenth Amendment to apply to sex or sexual orientation or there's nothing unconstitutional about it.

But that's fine. Because then all someone has to do is start First Parish of The Gay Jesus, and then perform homosexual unions, and there's not a shit thing anyone can do about it.

Two legal challenges are underway in the event Prop 8 passes. Grind grind grind. Sigh.
