Hi,
If you're interested in biofuels and ethanol in particular, you should check out Bruce Sterling's latest Viridian Note: Clutching at straws. It looks like he's giving Ethanol the thumbs up as his biofuel of choice.
Bruce can be kinda glib at times (he glosses over energy inputs to produce ethanol vs. energy outputs), and clearly he's got a green agenda, but it's a fascinating collection of links and it certainly shows some promise.
If you're not interested in biofuels, you might be interested in the latest research that theorizes that Earth microbes might hitch a lift into space on Earth's magnetic fields.
