This has kinda bugged me for awhile...

Hey,

Why is Aquaman "nobody's favorite hero" while Namor is kind of a bad-ass? Granted -- I don't think Marvel tries to push Namor very hard (I think he gets a series every so often, but it comes and goes) so you could argue that he's not an A-list hero the way Aquaman is (or is portrayed as). They've both got the same basic schtick and Namor has goofy ankle wings that shouldn't work at all.

Namor started out as a vicious villain, and always has a bad attitude. Aquaman is usually a nice guy. (His most successful series, however, was the one where he lost his hand, grew a beard, and got kinda grumpy.)

Namor's a real man who "romances" Sue Storm, which triggers all the crappy society preconditioning. Also he's defined as Hulk-level strength.

DC is already full to bursting with boy scouts. And when you have a choice among obsessing over Superman, the Green Lantern, and a guy who can't travel into space, well.

Namor, on the other hand, is a jerk, and anyone who hates Reed Richards is fine by me.

I think that Aquaman is a nice guy who doesn't need anyone or anything..he just goes around saving folks and 'taking care' of his kingdom. It's nice to have a savior, but they're really boring after a while.

I never really liked Aquaman because in reality he does not do anything to save the day. Its the whale or the dolphin or the shark that saves the day. Aquaman just ordered it to do something.

Now... Aquaman in Batman:Brave and the Bold is different from my standard thoughts on Aquaman. He takes crime fighting as a fun time to be had by all. You are his partner, not a sidekick.
