Restrepo
Hey,
So yesterday I went to Kendall Sq. to catch a showing of Restrepo.
Restrepo is a documentary by National Geographic about a platoon of soldiers in the Korengal valley in Afghanistan. The soldiers came under fire pretty much every day of their deployment. The camera is in the lead Hummer when it gets hit by an IED. It's not a terribly bloody film, in fact, the enemy is often just shots out from the hills you never see any bad guys, but it is a pretty raw, unfiltered look at life in a war zone.
I never think movies like this really change people's opinions about the war in [insert conflict zone here]. Probably these movies just harden whatever opinions they already have. I do think it's very important to see such films though, because until you see what it's like on the ground, you're missing an important perspective.
Anyway, maybe not a "good" film the way I normally apply that adjective, but it was a very good documentary and I'm glad I saw it.
