The Further Misadventures of Me

Hey,

Because my last paycheck was auto-deposited to my account I went online to do some banking.

Huh, I seem to have less money in my account than I thought.

Hey, why did I spend $360 at Walmart.com?

Perhaps because I didn't and my debit card's been jacked?

*sigh*

Luckily a trip to the bank has pretty much put everything right -- the money should be returned within a week or so, a new card is coming out to me and I've got a temp card to cover things for now.

Still...
Tom

Holy crap! That's almost worse than the time when I was charged over $6000 for a vibrator, because then, it was just an "oops, we forgot the decimal" rather than intentional fraud. :(

. . . A $6000 vibrator had better be able to satisfy all of the Rockettes at the same time . . .

Oh, great.

*hugs*

I'm a big fan of using a credit card as a protective layer between my bank account and the world. I never ever use the debit card feature of my bank card, and if possible I have the bank disable it or at least warn me if it's used for anything. As many purchases as possible go through the credit card.

Pros:
  • i never have to wait for the money from fraudulent charges to be returned. it never left my bank account.
  • i get cash back or points on my credit card and can actually MAKE money on this arrangement
Cons:
  • it requires a bit of financial responsibility to not buy more than you can afford, and to remember to pay the full amount every month, or it gets REALLY expensive really fast

Glad to hear you got everything resolved easily, though. Good eye for noticing quickly and not at the end of the month.

Ugh. I live in *dread* of the day that happens to me. At least it seems like your bank handled it painlessly...

Ugh. I'm sorry that the gods seem out to get you these days. Sacrifice a chicken? Good luck!

Pooh! You don't need any financial headaches when you've just lost your job.
