Hey,

So I'm in a LARP this Friday. I'm the first mate of a British steamship from 1876. I need some sort of basic costume. I've got a dark grey suit and I'm thinking about wearing it, but it's not quite "quasi-military" enough. Any suggestions or ideas from the peanut gallery?

Brass buttons and a hat.

If you can temporarily replace the buttons on your suit with brass ones, or cover the buttons that are on it with gold foil to make them look like brass, that might help. Also, you need a hat like this:
