[Lexicon] The Encyclopeida Elymira
Hi,
So as mentioned previously, I'm setting up to run a Lexicon.
Here is the introductory blurb:
At Ruggero I's conquest, the kingdom of Elymri held only the western third of the island of Sciela. By the time of the dissolution of the monarchy about AZ 952, it had been the greatest power in the Ocean, and also the pawn of the other great powers. Between the coronation of Ruggero I and the creation of the Kantrad, the scions of the Damiani, Urquardo, Meliflu, and Harono families were kings, queens, regents, artists, philosophers, sorcerors, despots, resistance fighters, courtesans and priestesses. Now, at last, their story can be told in The ENCYCLOPEDIA ELYMRIA!
New information from the Royal Archives, personal interviews with servants of great houses, and depositions taken during the collaboration trials of the scions of the Houses Lesser, bring you the true history of Elymri for the first time, using the new four-color manuscript process and the magic of daemonic printery!
If you've never played in a Lexicon game before, you should check out the rules. Basically a Lexicon is a creative writing exercise. You get to write 100-250 words about a fictional topic twice a week. We're planning on starting April 11th and having entries due on Tues. and Thurs. for the next four weeks ending around May 4th.
The home page for the Lexicon is located here and you should feel free to sign up on the Players page and make up a bio for your "scholar" on the Authors page.

The name of the island is Elymri and I hear it in my head as Ell-eem-rhee.
"Elymria" is the "latinization" of Elymri, the way that it's not the Encyclopedia Britian, but Britiania instead.

BTW, where does one find out more about the setting itself so as to make thematically appropriate entries (and scholars)? (i.e. I wouldn't want to do an entry that includes a person's death if everyone is immortal... or is determining even that part of the game?).

The blurb is pretty much the sum total of the setting as we know it. Part of the challenge is to explore your way forward. The setting is wide open at the start of the game and slowly constricts down as articles from early turns influence articles in later turns.
The game was inspired by a trip to Sicily if that helps.
Also, yes, when writing up your scholar be vague and abstract about the guy's past. If you say something like "Sir So-and-So is the best scholar for this work because he personally killed King Harvald IV during the Spaghetti War Period", you've just steered a lot of the Lexicon. Just be brief and focus on the scholar's area of expertise and personality and less on his background.
