Because I don't want you hearing about this from the streets...

Right,

So the whole thing with moving in with Annie is to test the waters for a long-term living together situation (i.e. getting married, settling down together, dodging the Geneva Convention and producing spawn, that sort of thing). It seemed wise and prudent. We've been handfasted for nearly a year, we're now sharing an apartment to discover if we can live cheek by jowl, etc.

So it was some surprise when, about three weeks ago, Annie asked if we could move the whole timetable up and get married sometime the end of summer next year.

"But we haven't even moved in together yet."
"Doesn't matter. If things get really awful we can call it off, but I don't think that's going to happen. I want to marry you next summer. Are you in?"
"Well...uh...yes."
"Good. I'd like a ring."
"Wait, you proposed to me. Shouldn't I be the one to get something?"
"You want a ring?"
"Well...no, but maybe something that's more my style...like a model train."
"An engagement model train?"
"You're right, I'll get you a ring."

And thus it is that we are engaged now. Expect to hear more about this in November when we set a date beyond "oh August 2006ish". Actually, if you're a friend of Annie's you may have heard a lot more about this already. If you're a friend of mine, I'll let you know what's up when we get close enough for real decisions to be made.

Until then, I'm very happy with the current state of affairs.

later
Tom

p.s. Also, my "G.I. Joe" themed wedding idea didn't go over so well.
Sorry, guys, I tried.

So mote it be...

You might mention that you're paraphrasing a little. I mean, just a little, but...

you never said anything about a GI Joe themed wedding!

[identity profile] kadath.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
You should dress up as Lady Jaye.

DUDE!!! Congratulations!

I would so love an engagement train set!

Woot!

[identity profile] dervishspin.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Congraulations!

::is embarassed:: ::has no idea who that is:: ::clearly missed television for a number of decades::

um. ok? :)

[identity profile] kadath.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
She's the main female good guy, who is a hot redhead. I've never met you, so I don't know if you're a redhead or not, but there's always hair dye.

[identity profile] asciikitty.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
naturally? I'm not a redhead.

Currently though, I am. I love me some good hairdye.

ah. I could do that. I wonder what my dressmaker would think of this plan. :)

[identity profile] jeregenest.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Congratulations. You two should come over for dinner next week (or whenever your back from camping) so we can celebrate all proper like.

Though Annie did tell me a while ago and and [livejournal.com profile] peaseblossom and I were wondering how long it was going to take you to come to grips with the matter.

[identity profile] shiffer.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)

I feel compelled to note that the other female good guy (gal) on that show is *also* a hot redhead, and make of that what you will.

And that would make Blue... Duke? Flint?

Congratulations!

[identity profile] shiffer.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well...uh...yes."
"Good. I'd like a ring."

That's one of the most romantic proposals I've ever heard. I might tear up :)

[identity profile] kadath.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I was mixing up Jaye and Scarlett a bit--Jaye's hair is really more auburn.

[identity profile] katkt.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
No, no he shouldn't. It works better if you imagine it as direct dialogue. That was hilarious. And made me cry in the happy/sappy kind of way.

Congratulations and much happiness for both of you.

Personally, I think you should have gone with the engagement model train.

[identity profile] asciikitty.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
*whispers* shhh. I still might.

Re: Congratulations!

[identity profile] asciikitty.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
In reality, it was even less romantic than that. I only got sappy afterwards.

[identity profile] katkt.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Duke. Definitely Duke.

[identity profile] lucasthegray.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Congratulations, man!

Still more romantic than how my parents got engaged:

Mom: I'm getting a new apartment. I need to know if we're getting married so I can decide how big it needs to be.

Dad: Can't we just live together?

Mom: No.

Dad: Okay.

Re: Congratulations!

[identity profile] katkt.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know about shiffer, but it's the non-romanticness of it that's so romantic for me. Did that make any sense? Perhaps I should explain that when I proposed there were dice involved.

[identity profile] dirkcjelli.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Congradulations.

(Resisting the urge to launch a hypothetical conversation re. the gi joe wedding)

[identity profile] bonisagus.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
The Baroness ;)

[identity profile] bonisagus.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually...Lady Jaye had brown hair. Scarlet had red hair.

[identity profile] msbutterpecan.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Uhm...Congrats?

*giggle*

The icon reflects my thoughts on marriage. I'll grant that I'm handfasted, but that's NOT married. Or it is, but only kinda.

Marriage just creeps me out...but, uh...yay for yous.

[identity profile] bonisagus.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Congrats :)
