Because I don't want you hearing about this from the streets...

Right,

So the whole thing with moving in with Annie is to test the waters for a long-term living together situation (i.e. getting married, settling down together, dodging the Geneva Convention and producing spawn, that sort of thing). It seemed wise and prudent. We've been handfasted for nearly a year, we're now sharing an apartment to discover if we can live cheek by jowl, etc.

So it was some surprise when, about three weeks ago, Annie asked if we could move the whole timetable up and get married sometime the end of summer next year.

"But we haven't even moved in together yet."
"Doesn't matter. If things get really awful we can call it off, but I don't think that's going to happen. I want to marry you next summer. Are you in?"
"Well...uh...yes."
"Good. I'd like a ring."
"Wait, you proposed to me. Shouldn't I be the one to get something?"
"You want a ring?"
"Well...no, but maybe something that's more my style...like a model train."
"An engagement model train?"
"You're right, I'll get you a ring."

And thus it is that we are engaged now. Expect to hear more about this in November when we set a date beyond "oh August 2006ish". Actually, if you're a friend of Annie's you may have heard a lot more about this already. If you're a friend of mine, I'll let you know what's up when we get close enough for real decisions to be made.

Until then, I'm very happy with the current state of affairs.

later
Tom

p.s. Also, my "G.I. Joe" themed wedding idea didn't go over so well.
Sorry, guys, I tried.

So mote it be...

I wish you all the happiness in the world that eludes me...

You might mention that you're paraphrasing a little. I mean, just a little, but...

you never said anything about a GI Joe themed wedding!

[identity profile] invader-haywire.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
DUDE!!! Congratulations!

I would so love an engagement train set!

Woot!

[identity profile] dervishspin.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Congraulations!

[identity profile] jeregenest.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Congratulations. You two should come over for dinner next week (or whenever your back from camping) so we can celebrate all proper like.

Though Annie did tell me a while ago and and [livejournal.com profile] peaseblossom and I were wondering how long it was going to take you to come to grips with the matter.

Congratulations!

"Well...uh...yes."
"Good. I'd like a ring."

That's one of the most romantic proposals I've ever heard. I might tear up :)

[identity profile] lucasthegray.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Congratulations, man!

[identity profile] dirkcjelli.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Congradulations.

(Resisting the urge to launch a hypothetical conversation re. the gi joe wedding)

Uhm...Congrats?

*giggle*

The icon reflects my thoughts on marriage. I'll grant that I'm handfasted, but that's NOT married. Or it is, but only kinda.

Marriage just creeps me out...but, uh...yay for yous.

[identity profile] bonisagus.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Congrats :)

[identity profile] woodwardiocom.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
-Congrats, my friend.

(And you could use one of the model train flatbeds to deliver the ring, nu?)

[identity profile] purple-dj.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Glad to hear you're doing your part to maintain the steady stream of weddings among my social circle.

Congratulations.

I didn't know you were into trains.

[identity profile] robotnik.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Who says romance is dead?

Congratulations!! That's excellent. Weddings are fun, and so is marriage, if you can believe it. Though I think you should still hold out for the model train.

Congrats, BigGuy!

I may have already said it in person, but Congrats.

Shit, just lay the tracks down in a circle, that a ring...

I would totally dress up as Zartan.

[identity profile] kniedzw.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Very cool.

...and with regard to the G.I. Joe wedding theme, at least knowing is half the battle.

[identity profile] peaseblossom.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee. Jere and I had a similar converstion I think, only sans model trains/G.I. Joe. So, actually, not very similar at all.

Congratulations!

*squee* Mazal tov. I'll tell you the story of how M and I got engaged at some point. M's ring story is good, too.

[identity profile] owlsamantha.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Congratulations! Here I just added you to my friends list finally and the first post I see is great news :-) That sounds awfully similar to Brian's proposal actually.

[identity profile] jeffwik.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, congratulations.

Have you considered a pirates and ninjas themed wedding? I tried to talk some friends from college into this but they didn't go for it. The ninjas would be the Bride's side, of course.

[identity profile] sweetmmeblue.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
My sweetie beat me to it but if you'd like to hear either of those stories we'd be happy to tell them.

Congratulations to both of you.

[identity profile] katatonic-state.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Congrats! :)

[identity profile] qedrakmar.livejournal.com 2005-06-20 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
So, should the officiant dress as Cobra Commander or Serpentor? Dibs on someone with a moustache...

If that doesn't fly, there's always the Sidd and Marty Krofft wedding. :)

Oh, and Congrats. :)
