How's that Amber/Nobilis Game coming along?
Just a few random notes for the peanut gallery...
The universe is like a quiche.
No, really. The logrus is the crusty bottom, the shadow worlds are like the bits of mushroom and pepper. The worlds all float in the eggy goodness of trump and Amber sits above it all as the bubbling, cheesy goodness. Also, Ygg is like a big piece of broccoli in the center.
Oddly, Dworkin's quiche-model of the universe corresponds rather well to the larger Creation that it sits in. There's no direct analog for the eggy goodness of trump, but substitute the mythic and you're good.
The PCs are all powers of the Unicorn, who is the icon of Amber and an ancient, angelic Imperator. And what estates does the Unicorn hold?
Death, Lies and Geometry.
All of which are fitting for Amber's Imperator, but rather odd choices for an Angel. In particular, the fact that Lies belongs to a Heavenly Imperator galls the Fallen Angels to no end. In fact, Death has already been approached about the idea of whacking his Familia-sister in exchange for Hell's favor. He politely turned them down.
He also politely turned down the very generous offer of the Dark. Pleased that Death was now an active Power to court, they hoped to encourage him to order the self-inflicted deaths of all humanity. He was strongly tempted. We almost had a very bizarre game. But common sense (and a gentle talking to from an Imperator of Light) convinced him not to.
Anyway, the PCs have all been enNobled because when Corwin and The-Excrucian-Mimicing-Brand created a new universe they need to "seed" it with a few concepts. So in the act of creation, a number of Imperators from this creation got taken along...including Lord Entropy and Lord Ananda.
There is a mild bit of chaos on Earth right now. So the PCs have been sent to clean up the mess and get things sorted out.
Luckily, the Power of Geometry has taken to the job of Locust Court judge as if he were born to it. The other servitors of the court weep in corrupted joy as he hands down his harsh, but expedient judgments. Most of the time they're even pretty fair.
Meanwhile, Death and Lies have been doing a lot of research and worked out a method to get in touch with the new universe of Corwin/Brand. The practical upshot of which is that the lost Imperators aren't coming back and the estates they represented in this creation will either be scooped up by existing Imperators or claimed by Imperators newly created.
They're now researching how you make a god. The easy answer is just to grab someone from the Fruit of All Worlds and push them out into the Mythic World of Creation. But that's for an emergency. The loss of a hundred-odd Imperators and the sudden vulnerability of Creation to Excrucian attack doesn't really rate as enough of an "emergency" to require these measures. So something else must be done. We'll see what they come up with.
