Let's ask LJ a question

Hey,

So...clipping your fingernails in your cube at work (over a wastebasket to catch all clppings).

Gross? OK? Other?

If gross, what happens if you chip a nail?

Not gross. Necessary. If you tear/chip a nail at work and the ragged edge is going to catch on things and drive you insane all day, better to just go ahead and clip it right away.

Gross is when you clip your nails over some surface rather than a waste basket... and forget to clean up the clippings and just leave them there. Clipping them right into a waste basket is totally fine.

I agree, though I'd say that if you're a front desk receptionist rather than a cube dweller like me, you might be better off doing it in the restroom. But unless you're in a really high-visibility, first-impression-of-the-office position, it's fine to do it over the wastebasket at your desk if you need to.

Ok if it's just one or two clips. Annoying as hell if it's much more than that.

I agree with this.

Thirded. Otherwise, restroom.

Yeah. I'm not sure but I think it's because clipping nails is not at all gross to me but personal grooming in public space is what's gross. So clipping a broken nail is fine because it's short and is clearly not grooming proper. Clipping all nails makes me think next the person is going to floss and gargle.

Chipping a nail is something you can't schedule, but regularly trimming your nails at your desk? What, you gonna whip out the dental floss next?

yeah, on or two, if it's a broken nail, but not all of them. that's what home is for.
