Silly mass media, comic books are for kids!

Hi,

So I'm sending off a belated Christmas present to my nephew who's 8-9. I can't quite bring myself to buy him WWE action figures. I'd like to send him some comic books (collected trade paperback comics), but I'm not entirely sure what would be good.

I'm pretty sure that Teen Titans (based on the TV show) is going in there, but do other people have suggestions? I'm pretty sure that something in the superhero line will fly better than non-super titles, but I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks
Tom

My boys, though a little older, like the Japanese books. Can't think of names of any of them, but they are "books" and they "read" backwards. They are all based on Japanese anime characters. (like Yu-gi-oh)
They are available at Borders and Barnes and Nobles.

Dude he needs some classic Kirby. Don't underestimate his reading power and the power of context, because when I was that age, I read Silver Age Justice League comics, and I was able to expand my vocabulary immensely by figuring out through context that when the villain said "MORONIC CRETIN!!" it was a bad thing and then I looked it up later to figure out what it meant...

Kirby FF and Ditko Spider-Man. One of those ESSENTIAL big collections of books from the 60s.
