Comics I would write

Hey,

So here's my pitch for a comic book series only I would read.

In the Marvel Universe there are all sorts of things that threaten the entire Earth. And it's always a hero (or heroes) from America who sort things out. This sort of thing happens in pretty much every comic book universe because...American comic companies.

But I figure in the Marvel universe, when cosmic threats rear their ugly head, there's more than one guy who would find out about it and be in a position to do something. The most likely contender for non-American savior of the planet? Victor Von Doom.

Think about it. The guy is almost as smart as Reed Richards which probably makes him the second smartest guy on the planet (and this where you've got the Leader and MODAK gunning for the title). Doom wants to conquer the Earth and he's got a huge operation in place to move his plans forward. If UFOs appear and angry aliens plant their flag, Doom's gonna plant his armored foot up their butt.

But Doom is busy! He's got a lot of work to do to take over the Earth! He's got to keep pushing science and technology forward, he's got to work out his next elaborate plan, and there's a daily hour of Richards Ranting he has to get in. He's a busy guy and he can't be bothered to stop and deal with every single threat to the planet that the "heroes" can't handle. So Doom needs a home-grown Latverian super-team he can delegate to.

This being Doom, he builds the team he wants. Sure Latveria has mutants, but they're all busy being test subjects. Doom sets up a team of advanced Doombots and uses them whenever something crops up. There are five of them. Four of them look like the older model doombots (the ones that sort of look like human-sized Sentinels). The fifth (and leader of the team) is a Doombot that looks like Doom. That way, he always gets the credit for saving the day.

The four "stock" Doombots are tweaked out in different ways so they're visually distinct. While they're all fairly strong, fast, can fly, resist damage and have ray beams, each of the Doombots has a specialty and a codename linked to the emblem on their chest:

  • Sword -- Naturally, this Doombot possesses a sword. It helps him channel his energy blasts so they hit harder, go farther, cover an area, etc. Sword is also a better melee combatant than his fellows and has a Taskmaster-like ability to copy and anticipate the actions of enemies he's fighting.
  • Shield -- Shield can project a powerful forcefield. This can be in a ball, hemisphere or wall shape. He can only maintain one field at a time. Shield also comes equipped with a range of sensors and analyzers to detect opponents, find clues, and evaluate/hack technology.
  • Stallion -- Stallion can teleport people or objects marked with a special beacon device (it's fairly small, like the spider-trackers Spider-Man uses). He can send things anywhere on Earth or even move items into other dimensions. He generally serves as the group's transport. He needs to have precise co-ordinates of a destination in order to use it (i.e. either he's been there or he had them downloaded).
  • Strength -- Just a jacked-up Doombot who's extra-strong. Obviously, he's not as strong as Hulk (NO ONE STRONGER THAN HULK!) or Thor or the Thing, but he's up there. He can also link up to any of the other Doombots and use his over-sized generators to boost their powers.

The fifth Doombot, the one who looks like Dr. Droom, is special. His codename is Sorcery and he's a robot capable of working magic. The techno-babble is that Sorcery uses a quantum-computer matrix for a brain and the multi-state nature of quantum computing makes it possible for a logical robot to deal with illogical magic. So he can cast spells and help the team deal with supernatural threats. His brain also means that he has the most complex personality of the Doombots. He always plays up the Doom megalomania act in public but when the team is in private he has a more nuanced approach.

You may note that Doom has basically created Doombot stand-ins for the Fantastic 4 and then put a surrogate of himself as the leader. Don't point this out to Doom.

Anyway, I think the group has a lot of potential and it'd be fun to read about their adventures in "Saving the Earth...for DOOM!"
